A NAS (Network Attached Storage Device) may be the best place both save and access your media library.

I have a large movie collection, mostly on DVD, that would be too difficult to try and insert each movie into a DVD player to watch. So, I bought a NAS machine then I could store all my content and have instant access to my entire collection either at home, or on the go.

I opened Google and searched for “how to convert blu-ray to mkv for nas”, then found an app named Brorsoft Blu-ray Ripper.

This NAS Blu-ray converter program is capable of transcoding Blu-ray, Blu-ray ISO, DVD, DVD ISO, IFO, Video-TS, etc., to NAS Drives streaming with no quality loss. What's more, it provides 150+ ready presets for iPhone, iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab and other mobile devices. And with the new optimized NVIDIA CUDA & AMD acceleration technology, it runs an unbeatable 30X faster than others.

I mainly use it for ripping my own Blu-ray and DVD library to video file for storing on my own NAS drive. Now, i have had all my discs available in video file format on the NAS drive, this is really a convenient way of using an extensive library of discs. Perfect software!

I really like the software from Brorsoft company, expecially this Blu-ray Ripper for only $35.95. Even better is that I made an e-mail to their customer service: support@brorsoft.com then got an EXTRA $5.00 COUPON .

If you are using Mac, you can also use the Blu-ray Ripper for Mac OS X.

Now follow the steps below and backup and convert DVD, Blu-ray to your NAS machines.

Having all Blu-ray/DVD discs available in video file format on the NAS drive

STEP 1. Add Blu-ray, DVD files

Insert your Blu-ray disc into your BD drive, run the Blu-ray to MKV/MP4 For NAS Converter and click "BD/DVD disc" icon to load your Blu-ray movies. As you can see, you can preview the loaded Blu-ray files in the right preview window and select Blu-ray audio track/subtitle. DVD disc, DVD folder, ISO/IFO files are supported as well.

Step 2. Choose output formats

Click the "Format" to convert Blu-ray/DVD on NAS for widely using. Here we suggest H.264 MP4, MPEG-4 or MPEG-2 from "Common Video" as there are widely supported by most media servers and streamers. You can choose HD Video > MKV HD Video(*.mkv) as output format.

Tips: If you like, you can click "Settings" to change the video encoder, resolution, frame rate, etc. as you wish. Keep in mind the file size and video quality is based more on bitrate than resolution which means bitrate higher results in big file size, and lower visible quality loss, and vice versa. In addition, this video converter allows you to customize your video by the concise editing features, for example, cropping or trimming the unwanted ad parts or titles, changing video effects, adding watermarks, etc.

STEP 3. Start converting Blu-ray/DVD to NAS

Press the "Convert" button to start ripping Blu-ray/DVD movies to H.264 MP4/MKV for NAS streaming. When the conversion finishes, click Open button to find the output files. Make sure the wireless network connection is accessible among the NAS and HD TV or other media players. Then just enjoy the high quality movies at ease.

Additional Tips:

You probably would like to store MKV, AVI, VOB, TiVo, H.265, etc., videos on your NAS for playing via Chromecast, Plex or other media players. Unfortunately, they are failed, as NAS might doesn't have enough power to stream your movies on the fly if they are in unsupported file types. In this case, you can try the Brorsoft’s Video Converter Ultimate (or iMedia Converter for Mac), it is capable of transcoding MKV, AVI, VOB, TiVo, H.265, MXF, MP4, MOV, WMV to H.264 (AVC), MPEG-4, MPEG-2 for NAS streaming with no quality loss.
