How to Play and Management Blu-ray and DVD on Plex: Kodi Add -on

You don't alway want to watch your Blu-ray and DVD movies with Blu-ray (DVD) player, especially if you already have a library of media on your existing devices. If you are a KODI users, Plex is an excellent app for you, it allows you to advanced customization of your personal videos, (Blu-ray and DVD) movies, TV shows, photos and enjoy them on any device, anywhere, anytime.

Now that, with the Plex for Kodi add-on, you get the Kodi experience for your big screen, powered by Plex Media Server. Then, how to make Blu-ray and DVD disc access to it?

How to convert/rip Blu-rays & DVDs to Plex Media Server: Kodi Add -on

Here we take Windows Blu-ray Ripper screenshot, the Mac version Blu-ray Ripper share the same steps besides the tiny difference in interface.

STEP 1. Import Blu-ray or DVD movies

Insert your Blu-ray or DVD disc into your BD drive or DVD drive, run the Blu-ray Ripper and click "BD/DVD disc" icon to load movies.

After the Blu-ray or DVD files are loaded, you can preview them on the right viewing window and take snapshots of your favorite movie scene.

Blu-ray or DVD folder, ISO and IFO files are also supported.

Note: Before loading Blu-ray content, a BD drive is needed and pls keep networked.

STEP 2. Decide output format

Click the "Format" option, and choose MPEG4, MOV from Common Video profile list. If you want to keep 1080p resolution as source movie, you can choose HD Video > H.264 HD Video(*.mp4) for Plex Media Server.

Note: The output format is preferably in a common format, like MP3 for audio, MPEG-4 for video. The more common format you use, the more devices you can stream to.

Tip - Advanced Settings:

If you like, you can click "Settings" to change the video encoder, resolution, frame rate, etc. as you wish. Keep in mind the file size and video quality is based more on bitrate than resolution which means bitrate higher results in big file size, and lower visible quality loss, and vice versa.

Step 3: Start convert/rip Blu-rays & DVDs

Click the convert button under the preview window, and the Blu-ray ripper will start the conversion from Blu-ray movies for Plex Media Server.

As Plex say: once you’re up and running Plex for Kodi add-on, you’ll never know it’s not Plex! So, once the Blu-ray and DVD ripping processing finished, get the ripped Blu-ray / DVD files and transfer to Plex Media Server: Kodi add-on easily, just like stream your others videos, music, photos to Plex Media Server.
