Differences between DVD5, DVD9, DVD10 and DVD18

DVD is almost identical to a normal CD. The DVD, however, consists of two half-discs, which can hold movies, audio files, better than CD quality and computer data. Initially, users were simply popping the DVDs into players for watching movies. But there was a large scale evolution of DVD technology which led to the birth of multiple formats of DVDs. Users can now record, erase and re-record into DVDs just like they used to do with the compact discs. In this article, we will introduce main 4 different DVD types: DVD5, DVD9, DVD10 and DVD18 and their differences.

The medium is composed of two halves. Both halves are made of polycarbonate, which serves as a carrier material. In a recording layer is deposited in each case, and sealed with a protective layer of polycarbonate.

To all data on the DVD 10, it must be turned, because the laser is in a DVD-ROM drive only on the bottom.

DVD-9

DVD-9 is a single sampled, double layer DVD with 8.5 GB of storage capacity.
The medium is composed of two halves. When halves which the carrier material of polycarbonate. On one half of a layer is vapor-deposited, which is usually made of aluminum. This recording layer is called Layer 0.

A second semi-permeable layer is deposited thereon. It is usually made of gold or a combination of silicon and carbon (SiC), or silicon and nitrogen (SiN). With another polycarbonate layer DVD-9 is sealed with a protective layer.

Data carrier layers on the DVD-9, the opaque and the transparent layer. By changing the focal length of the laser can be read alternately between the opaque and the transparent layer.

DVD-18

The DVD 18 is a sampled double-sided, double-layer DVD 17 GB of storage capacity.
The medium consists of two halves, each with 4 layers. The middle part is a thick layer of polycarbonate. It is the foundation for the other layers. On the polycarbonate has a thin layer of an opaque but reflecting material is applied (Layer 0). In a similarly thin transparent but semi-transparent film is applied. A protective layer of polycarbonate is the final for the DVD-18th.

The data carrier layers on the DVD-18, the opaque and the transparent layer. By changing the focal length of the laser can be read alternately between the opaque and the transparent layer. since the DVD-18 is a two-sided DVD is, it must be rotated when you want to access to all data.

The video or the game is burned onto the DVD and the disc will run on any device which is equipped with DVD-ROM. The DVD-ROMs and CDs are very similar in nature.
