How to Import Blu-ray Footage to Nuke for Editing?

Nuke is incredibly versatile, customizable and user-friendly digital composing application developed by The Foundry. It enables our creative talent to explore and expand ideas for film post-production. In case, you have collected some Blu-ray discs and would like to make personal editing with Nuke (no matter paid or non-commercial version), you'll be disappointed since Nuke doesn't support a Blu-ray disc format yet. Don't worry, we will present you a way to import Blu-ray footage to Nuke for editing with ease.

Though Nuke doesn't support Blu-ray disc format, but it native supports AVI, QuickTime MOV, Apple ProRes, Avid DNxHD, etc formats as input. In order to import and edit Blu-ray footage in Nuke, you can use some third party Blu-ray ripping tool to rip/convert Blu-ray to Nuke compatible formats in advance.

Guide: Convert Blu-ray Footage to Nuke Supported Formats

NOTE: NUKE is available for Microsoft Windows 7, OS X 10.9, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, and newer versions of these operating systems. And Blu-Rays are big, we’re going to rip the whole content to our drive first, so depending on the movie you’re ripping and the quality you want in your final movie file, you’ll need a good amount of space (30 to 60 GB is much better).

Step 1. Install and launch the best Blu-ray to Nuke Converter. Click "Load Disc" button to load your Blu-ray movies to this program.

Step 2. Hit the Format drop-down menu and choose AVI from Common Video or HD Video category as output format for Nuke. If you running Mac OS X 10.9 and above, you can get Avid DNxHD in Avide Media Composer list, or QuickTime MOV in Common Video list, and Apple ProRes in Final Cut Pro list as well.

Tip: For personal settings, click "Settings" button to adjust video and audio settings, including codec, aspect ratio, bit rate, frame rate, sample rate, and audio channel as you like.

Step 3. When everything is ok, hit "Convert" button to convert Blu-ray footage to Nuke compatible formats. Once the conversion is finished, check the generated videos, then import and edit the converted Blu-ray footage in Nuke smoothly.
